Day 105

September 19, 2022

Monday

LRM 374

1921 miles completed

I Paddled 35 miles today.

I paddled pretty consistently all day with a rest in the morning, a 30 minute lunch break, and a rest in the afternoon.

It was really hot and there was hardly any breeze. There were a few clouds around but none of them ever came overhead. I just kept putting water on my legs and shoulders and on my neck gaiter. I drank more than a gallon of water. The weather forecast is for it to get even hotter over the next several days.

I met a commercial fisherman At mile marker 375. It was about 4:30 and I had pulled over to the Louisiana side to find some shade because of the extreme heat. He came over to check on me to see if I was OK. HIs name is Malone. He said he’s met a lot of paddlers on the Mississippi. He offered me some sardines in water, but I said I was OK.

I paddled about one more mile and found a really nice place to camp on the down stream point of an island. I was 10 miles from Natchez. I could see Natchez in the distance. I thought it quite remarkable that I can see it that far away.
