2284 miles completed
16 miles today.
Breakfast was Thompson’s Kitchen again. Pork chops and eggs with grits and biscuits.
After breakfast, I went down to the Chevron Empire Launch and walked up the shore to where I had hid my kayak and gear. I didn’t walk back through the tall grass because I had been warned about the snakes.
I very carefully examined my boat for snakes, while standing in a hill of fire ants. My left ankle took a bunch of stings.
I had a relatively short paddling day. I stopped at Delta launch services. They require a picture of your drivers license and you have to sign a waiver to use their facilities. You can sign the waiver electronically.
Mary Ann picked me up and we loaded all my gear and boat. We met Joseph Solomon and J. C. Walker at a restaurant named “Changes”. They were out of gumbo! So we had hors d’oeuvres and left there. we went to Venice marina for dinner. A fishing boat just arrived and four guys were having their pictures made with yellowfin tuna that they had caught. The fish were as big as the guys that caught them.
Joe Solomon and J. C. Walker and I were really excited anticipating paddling to the Gulf together the next day.
We had a really nice dinner. The Marina restaurant had gumbo.
Then I went back to Patty’s Place in Buras for the night.
Wow! I am impressed by all of this and especially that you can spell hors d’oeurves! I can’t even spell it!
Ugh that sucks about the fire ants! Glad no snakes though. And dang those are some giant fish!!
