Day 106
September 20, 2022
Tuesday
LRM 364 - Natchez, Mississippi
1931 miles completed
I Paddled 10 miles this morning.
I captured the sunrise quite nicely.
I did not get in a big hurry to start paddling today. As a result it was already uncomfortably hot when I started. I only had to go 10 miles in Natchez. I had reserved a room, room number three over the saloon at under the hill, The Mark Twain guesthouse.
This morning before I started paddling I called my daughter Tracey and asked her if she could come get me. She lives in Hammond Louisiana, about two hours away. I need to make plans to get off the river until this heat wave is over. The forecast is for 98 or 99 degrees for a couple of days.
I left my car in Dyersburg Tennessee at the home of Mike Bohannon. At some point I will need to retrieve my car. This might be a good opportunity to escape the heat and retrieve my car. My daughter Tracey volunteered to drive me to Dyersburg and let me get my car. I plan to leave my car at her house until I finish paddling the river.
Tracey will bring me back to Natchez to resume my trip after I get my car.
When I got to the boat ramp at Natches Peggy Pierrepont (Marge) was waiting for me. She had commandeered two strangers to carry the boat up the boat ramp to the storage location. These were two nice young man who happened to be standing by the saloon where I was going to be staying. I unloaded the boat and put my gear in peggy’s car. The two young men carried the boat to the top of the ramp and put it in the storage area. I selected the gear that I wanted to take to my room and we put the rest with the boat to leave in storage until I return.
I got a shower, had lunch at the restaurant next-door, and took a nap.
Peggy picked me up around five and we went to her Search And Rescue monthly meeting. They discussed issues with body bags and a gun raffle, and reelected their officers for another year.
Peggy and I had fried catfish for dinner at a restaurant under the hill. Then she went home and I watched karaoke at the saloon. One woman sang: “Angel from Montgomery”. She was great!
Natches is really fun. Vicksburg is really fun. But they are not alike. If you’re a well educated redneck you’ll love them both.
Love reading about your adventures ❤️
