Day 17 on the Mississippi River

September 7, 2021

Tuesday

Paddling: 9:25 am 4:30 pm

7 hrs

19 miles

We got a late start because we tried to dry out our gear, and couldn’t. Then we had to haul our boats across the dam and down to the launch site. We started paddling at 9:25. We had good current and a stout wind mostly from behind. By noon it had turned into a lovely warm day with the wind in our favor.

We see bald eagles several times a day.

When we passed where Mud Lake feeds into the Mississippi River the river size increased noticeably.

We stopped at Leech Lake boat launch. We didn’t like it so we went on to Gambler’s Point. The campsite sits on a bluff over the river.

We are tent camping. We got everything dry. We are watching beavers swim the river. The burn ban is lifted. We are enjoying our first campfire.

the SPOT tracker quit working.
