Day 20 on the Mississippi River

Friday

RM 1173, 169 miles completed

We left the campsite at the upper dam in Grand Rapids at 9:45. We paddled three miles to the portage site for the second dam. The portage was about six tenths mile through a residential neighborhood.

At the launch site I stayed with the boats while Terry went to Target and L & M Fleet. He had to replace his air mattress, and some other stuff. He had to walk almost two miles one way.

We then paddled about six miles to Sucher’s Campsite. It’s a very nice campsite. It easy to get to and sits about 15 or 20 feet above the river. It has a picnic table and an outhouse without the house.

Ann Ogg called me. She is a River Angel. She lives about an hour away. She offered to bring us stuff if we needed anything. I told her we couldn’t find fuel for our Coleman stove, and we needed ibuprofen tablets. There is no road access to this campsite so we arranged for her to meet us at Blackberry Bridge Landing tomorrow morning. That’s two miles from our campsite.

It was a warm and sunshiny day. We had good current below the second dam. The wind was very mild.

It was a good day.

Good night Rachel.

Eat more chicken.

Love,

GPL
