Friday

Aitkin Campground

RM 1056

286 miles completed

The rain ended about 6:30 am and we got up not long after.

We had breakfast then packed our tents wet. We paddled 23 miles from Willow River Campsite to Aitkin Campground. The weather was clear, cool, and windy.

Rick Barta (River Angel) and I maintained contact via text messages, and when we arrived in Aitkin, Rick drove almost an hour to take us shopping for supplies. When Rick arrived he was carrying McDonald’s hamburgers with bacon for Terry and me. He knew we would be hungry.

Rick had his grandson with him. His grandson’s name is Beau. He is four years old and has beautiful light blue eyes. He was very polite, and had a nice smile.

I also have a grandson named Beau, who lives in Louisiana. My grandson is 31.

Our tents dried out. I layered up for sleeping tonight. It’s going to be 40 degrees.
