We made it to the county road 2 bridge and continued about a quarter mile where we found a place to hang our hammocks. It was 7:00 pm. We left the county road 37 bridge at 2:40 pm. So it was a 4 hour, 20 minute day. There was virtually no paddling, just wading and pulling our boats. We went less than three miles. We were exhausted. The walking was in the Vekin’s dam rapids. Now we are through the rapids and are hoping for some water deep enough to paddle.
We chose our stopping point because it was the only place we had seen were we could beac our boats and stand up. The bank was about three feet high. We had to carry our camping gear about a hundred yards through tall grass to get to get to some trees where we could hang our hammocks. While we were setting up camp Terry stood on a yellow jacket’s nest and got stung 5 times.
The hammock was very comfortable at first, then during the night I felt like it was trying to bend my knees backwards. I found I could fix that by almost turning on my side. It’s hard to lie on your side in a hammock.
What a hard day. We are cheering for you though. Hang in there. We are praying for you too!!!
