Day 39 on the Mississippi River

September 29, 2021

Wednesday

Home of Lisa and Jeff Karan

RM 870

472 miles completed

I got up at about 6:30. I had oatmeal, coffee, and an apple for breakfast. I packed my lunch of peanut butter on ritz crackers, turkey sausage sticks, and an apple.

I slept in my hammock. It was not very cold, maybe 50 degrees.

We paddled 20 miles. We had current all day most of the day. There were no dams and no portages. The sun was warm. The sky was clear. We encountered several rapids. I wasn’t always able to find the best way through. I hit some rocks a couple of times and twice I had to get out and walk.

We at our lunch while drifting on the river. When we finally stopped for a break it was 1:30 and we had been sitting in our boats for 4 1/2 hours. We paddled on to Lisa’s and Jeff’s.

We arrived at the Karan’s around 3:30 or 4:00. They met us at their dock and helped us with our boats and helped carry our gear.

We showered and did laundry. Then they took us to Target. Terry found the charger cord he needed and I replaced my sleeping pad with a big one like Terry’s.

Jeff picked up our orders from a local restaurant and we had a very enjoyable dinner together.

We slept in the basement den.
