Thursday
We are at Coffee Pot landing. I woke at 8:00. It was raining. We slept in a shelter with part of the shingles missing, but we were able to place our sleeping bags so they would be out of the wet spots.
My good paddling partner, Terry Butler, walked two mile yesterday to get three gallons of water. We were so dehydrated we drank two of them right away.
We decided to take a zero day (zero miles). We are both tired and our shoulders are sore. We don’t feel like getting wet. We need to get more water. And the longer we wait in the rain, the more water we’ll have in the river for paddling. Maybe if we wait a day the river will rise. There are more rapids and grass ahead of us.
I volunteered to walk for water. Terry said maybe we could collect rain water and save a long walk. He collected enough rain water to fill all 5 of our water jugs, and both drinking cups. We are now all topped off. He also caught 8 more cups for the chicken noodle soup. We are having hot chicken noodle soup on a cold rainy day.
In the afternoon the sky cleared and we had a very enjoyable sunny afternoon. We dried everything and reorganized our gear. We took a long nap. I slept in the grass in the sunshine and the warmth felt great.
We cooked and ate several times. We tried my alcohol burner for the first time. It worked great. We played around with the marine radio and listened to the weather channel and some FM radio music.
