Tent Camping on an island

East Dubuque, Illinois

RM 576

764 miles completed

I got a late start. Everything was wet and I dried it out. I started paddling about 12:15.

I met Brenda Sullivan. She and her husband and another couple were camped near my campsite. She gave me coffee and offered to help if she could. We discussed meeting around the area of lock and dam 12 to take me to get supplies. It didn’t work out. I Didn’t get to dam 12 until the following day. When I did get there and found a place to stop for the night it was late and too far away. I really appreciate her offer. There are so many giving people near the river. I am sorry Brenda and I weren’t able to get me that trip to Target to exchange my air mattress.

I paddled about 6 1/2 miles to lock and dam 11 and about 6 1/2 miles after locking through.

I camped on a sandy point of an island. The moon came up almost full. I saw Venus, Jupiter, and Saturn. It was a beautiful cold night.
