Sunday

Tent camping on an island near Fairport, Iowa.

RM 462

880 miles completed

I did not paddle today.

There was a severe storm affecting the middle of the United States.

I kept a fire going all day and tried to dry out my sleeping bag. I put up my tent and spent a second night on the island. I could see the Fairport Recreation Campground across the channel but the wind and waves made it too dangerous to try to paddle over there.

I found out that my sleeping bag has insulation properties even when wet. 40 degrees, rain, 40 mph wind, all night.

The fire went out during the night. I managed to get it going again in the morning with my camp stove.

Only a master fire builder could get a fire started with super saturated wood! 👍🏻🪵🔥
