Day 65 on the Mississippi River

October 25, 2021

Monday

Tent camping on Willow Island south of Muscatine, IA.

RM 450

892 miles completed

I paddled about 12 miles today.

I spent the morning drying out my gear. Then I went across the channel to the Fairport Recreation campground to check it out in case Terry might need a place to stop. The showers were closed for the winter. The water from the faucet was brown. I don’t think he will want to stop there.

By the time I started paddling down the river it was 1:30 in the afternoon.

The wind was still a little heavy but now it was out of the North and it didn’t give any trouble on the North side of the river.

I made it through Lock and Dam 16 without a wait. Just past the dam I stopped at the Muskatine river park and walked to a restaurant nearby. I let my phone charge while I ate lunch. Then I got back on the river and paddled until sunset.

I found a spot and started a fire. I saw a nice sunset. I set up my tent in the dark by flashlight.

I had peanut butter and Ritz and two protein bars for dinner.

I heard coyotes. I don’t know if they are on this island. There are lots of islands here.

Great photos. Keep pushing! Got to get further south before it gets too cold!
